The Feed: New Dreams Chocolates Support Shriners

Owners of local chocolatier Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company recently came up with a way to make good out of bad with the launch of a new line of chocolates.

In looking to replace “creams,” the oozy, fruity chocolates frequently left in the box, they created Dreams, fresh fruit puree dipped in pure milk or dark chocolate, and found a way to give back to the community.

Throughout October, 20 percent of Dreams sales will benefit the St. Louis branch of the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a center dedicated to providing medial and rehiabilitative services to children with congenital deformities and conditions, problems resulting from orthopaedic injuries and diseases of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

“We really wanted to help someone as we launched a new chapter in the company, and we thought of children first,” says Dan Abel Jr., company vice president and second-generation candy maker.

The company officially launched Dreams during a special charity event Fri., Oct. 8 at Shriners Hospital that paired young patients with local media celebrities.

The company’s chocolatiers have perfected the Dreams recipe using a century-old candy making process known as starch casting.

“In the world of chocolate technology, there have been some key product development milestones that have changed the way people think about and consume chocolate,” Abel Jr. says. “We think that the launch of Dreams is one of those innovations, and it’s definitely very exciting if you’re a chocolate enthusiast.”

Dreams will be available initially in 12 flavors, including strawberry, key lime, orange, blackberry, pomegranate, lemon and mint. Each flavor features a signature swirl on top.

The Dreams collection is available by the pound, half pound and in an 8 Dream Sequence assorted box at all local Dierbergs locations and all eight Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company stores or online.

New Line of Chocolate to Benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children

ST. LOUIS (October 8, 2010) – This month, St. Louis-based chocolatier Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company introduces a new line of chocolates that begins with fresh fruit puree, which is then enrobed in pure milk or dark chocolate.  Dubbed “Dreams,” these nuggets of goodness were created to replace “creams” – the oozy, fruity, oft-ignored chocolates that are frequently the lonely pieces left in the box.  Using a century-old candy making process known as starch casting, Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company’s chocolatiers have perfected a recipe that results in a delicious fruit and chocolate blend unlike anything on the market.

In 1912, candy makers developed a chocolate shell that could be filled with a variety of soft centers, creating the first chocolate truffle.  Truffles, of course, have since become widely known and extremely popular.  The Abel family, which owns Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company, believes Dreams are equally unique.

“In the world of chocolate technology, there have been some key product development milestones that have changed the way people think about and consume chocolate,” explained Dan Abel, Jr., second generation candy maker and Vice President at Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company.  “We think that the launch of Dreams is one of those innovations…and it’s definitely very exciting if you’re a chocolate enthusiast.”

To celebrate the launch of Dreams, Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company is helping make some very special children’s dreams come true.  Throughout the month of October, the company will donate 20% of all Dreams sales to the St. Louis branch of Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Shriners Hospitals for Children is dedicated to providing medical and rehabilitative services to children with congenital deformities and conditions, problems resulting from orthopaedic injuries, and diseases of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Initially, Dreams will be available in approximately 12 flavors, including strawberry, key lime, orange, blackberry, pomegranate and lemon, as well as a mint version.  (Each flavor has a signature swirl on top, applied by hand, to identify it.)  The process of making Dreams allows for virtually any flavor, so the company plans to debut additional flavors in the coming months and years.  The Dreams Collection – available by the pound, half pound and in an “8 Dream Sequence” assorted box – is available at all eight Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company stores and online at www.chocolatechocolate.com.

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company was launched in 1981 by Dan Abel, a native St. Louisan who had previously apprenticed under some of the leading candy makers in the country.  Today, the business includes eight locations (some of which are franchised), as well as Lake Forest Confections which they acquired in January 2010.  Last year, the Abel family revived the legendary Mavrakos chocolate brand, known for years as the St. Louis chocolate company, after holding the family recipe book for 25 years.  The creation of the Dreams collection is yet another example of the continual evolution and innovation of the company.
